Being fired is something that can happen when your work isn’t happy with your individual work performance. Before firing you, your employer should have given you other types of warnings about your performance or your suitability for the job - for example, by using verbal and written warnings, or by offering you training to improve your work performance.
Being made redundant isn’t like that - it’s not about you as an individual, it’s about the needs and financial situation of your employer. Redundancies happen when a company is deciding to change the way it works, make some departments smaller and others bigger, or having to shrink the size of their staff because of financial problems. Redundancy is something that normally happens because the company can no longer afford to keep the amount of staff they currently have.
